DREAM Academy

DREAM Academy (Grades 9-12)

Goal: To accelerate student learning in preparation for success in college and life through academics, community service, and extracurricular activities.

DREAM (Determined to Reach Every Accomplishment with Motivation) is a program designed for students to meet the requirements for admission to four-year colleges and universities. Students will enroll in college preparatory classes and an elective DREAM class. In the elective class, students are taught the skills needed for success and engage in tutorials. In particular, students are taught study skills, Cornell note taking, time management, writing and research skills. Students also learn about colleges and universities (especially the application and financial aid processes) and prepare for college admission tests such as the SAT or ACT. Students may take field trips to college campuses and cultural events, and guest speakers from the community may speak to the DREAM classes about their experiences and career options. Students are required to apply to DREAM. The process includes completing an application packet, submitting teacher recommendation forms, and an interview. Admission is determined by the school’s DREAM team.

Why DREAM Works
Places students in a rigorous curriculum and gives them the support to achieve therein.
Provides a team of students for positive peer identification.
Redefines teacher’s role as that of a student supporter.
