Important Reminders

Student Safety - Once students are on campus, they are required to stay on campus unless signed out by a parent or guardian. This is to ensure that all of our Olympia students are safe and supervised at all times.

Morning Student Drop Off - Cars must follow the designated traffic pattern when dropping off students in the morning. Please pull all the way forward to the front of the auditorium. Stopping at the curve causes unnecessary backups and delays in the drop-off line. Your cooperation helps keep our car line safe and efficient for everyone.

Student Parking - To ensure safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during morning drop-off, students are not permitted to back into parking spaces in the Junior lot. Backing in creates visibility issues and disrupts the drop-off process for families. All student drivers must pull forward into their parking spot and check for clear pathways before crossing.

Cell Phones & iPads/tablets & Headphones - From first to last bell, students may not use cell phones, iPads, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, or headphones. Per OCPS policy, all devices must be silenced and stored in a backpack or purse for the entire school day, including during class changes and lunch. If a student is found using a device, they will be required to turn it in. After the first offense, progressive discipline will follow. For more information, visit www.ocps.net to view the Code of Student Conduct.

College & Career Resource Center

A weekly calendar for CCRC, listing events from 10/6/25 to 10/10/25.

College & Career Resource Center (CCRC) News: Act Now! 🚀

The next two weeks mark the most critical period for seniors navigating the college admission process. With major application and financial aid deadlines arriving, immediate action is required to maximize your chances for admission and scholarship funding.

🚨 URGENT: Financial Aid and College Deadlines!
Seniors, you must prioritize these two crucial tasks right now to secure your post-secondary future.

1. FAFSA is OPEN: Create Your FSA ID NOW! 💰
The 2026-2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open! Completing the FAFSA is the only way to qualify for federal, state, and institutional aid.
  • Action Step: Create Your FSA ID: Both the student AND one parent (the "contributor") must each create their own FSA ID. This is your legal signature required to complete and sign the FAFSA online.
  • Get Started: Visit StudentAid.gov/fsa-id to create your FSA ID today. It can take 1–3 days for your ID to be verified before you can sign and submit the FAFSA, so do this immediately!

2. Florida University Early Action Deadlines Approach! 📅
The Early Action deadline for key Florida public universities is just around the corner. Applying Early Action ensures you receive priority consideration for admission and merit-based scholarships.

Maximize Xello (launch.ocps.net) 💻
Log in to Xello via the launch.ocps.net portal to manage your applications:
  • Track Deadlines: Use the application tracker to organize and manage requirements for all your colleges.
  • Request Documents: This is the platform used to electronically request transcripts and teacher recommendation letters—requests go directly to school staff for submission.
  • Link Common App: Sync your Common App account with Xello to streamline the submission of counselor forms and documents.
Visit the CCRC (This Week) 🙋‍♀️
The CCRC is open every day to provide one-on-one help and resources:
  • FAFSA & FSA ID Assistance: Get help creating your FSA ID and beginning the FAFSA.
  • Application Review: Guidance on filling out the Common App, UCF's SPARK, and FSU's application forms.
  • Document Checks: Ensure you have submitted all necessary document requests in Xello to meet the October 15th deadlines.

Student Services News: Critical Dates & Opportunities

As the first nine weeks draws to a close, the Student Services team is focused on helping our Juniors and Seniors capitalize on key academic opportunities, including the upcoming PSAT/SAT and vital college planning meetings.

Senior "Graduation Ready" Meetings Concluding Next Week
We are in the final stage of meeting individually with every Senior to ensure they are "Graduation Ready" and have a solid post-secondary plan. We cover final academic needs, college applications, financial aid, and career preparation.

Seniors who haven't met yet: Your counselor will be contacting you directly next week to schedule a time to come to the Student Services office. Please monitor your school email. We are committed to finalizing your plan.

Critical Testing Day: PSAT/SAT on Thursday, October 9, 2025
This Thursday, October 9th, is a tremendously important, mandatory testing day for all Juniors and Seniors. Please be well-rested, eat a good breakfast, and arrive on time.

Juniors: PSAT/NMSQT - National Merit Scholarship 🎓
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is the only official route for Juniors to qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.
  • Students who achieve top scores in the state may qualify for recognition as Semifinalists and compete for valuable college scholarships.
  • For details on the competition, visit the National Merit Scholarship Corporation website: www.nationalmerit.org.

Seniors: SAT - College Admissions & Financial Aid 💰
The SAT on October 9th is a critical opportunity for all Seniors for two major reasons:
  1. Florida University Admissions: Due to state mandates, all State of Florida Universities require standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) for admission consideration. A strong score on this final test date can significantly boost your application.
  2. Florida Bright Futures Scholarship: The SAT is a key tool for qualifying for the generous Bright Futures Scholarship program. Meeting the minimum required SAT score is essential for earning the Florida Academic Scholars or Florida Medallion Scholars awards, which provide substantial tuition coverage.
Seniors: This is a critical SAT test day for your college admissions and financial aid eligibility in Florida!

We wish all our students the best of luck on their upcoming tests! Please reach out to the Student Services Department with any questions.
